Former BRITISH SEA POWER keyboard player Eamon Hamilton formed BRAKES in 2003 with the help of friends and collaborators Tom and Alex White (ELECTRIC SOFT PARADE) and Marc Beatty (TENDERFOOT). Following two albums on ROUGH TRADE (both of which attracted critically acclaimed, and devilishly-astute reactions to the world Hamilton idiosyncratically inhabits), Brakes are back with a new album and a new home. "Touchdown" (their first for local Brighton imprint FATCAT RECORDS) is a lush, sprawling rock record; one that builds on the band?s thirst for finding the perfect blend of pop, rock and country. The album has been produced in Glasgow by Paul Savage from the DELGADOS, who has also produced albums and tracks for MOGWAI, ARAB STRAP, MALCOLM MIDDLETON, TEENAGE FANCLUB and FRANZ FERDINAND. "Touchdown" builds on the past, but never relies on it; bursting with new ideas, melodic interchanges and vocal duals. The thirteen tracks (twelve originals and one cover) are unmistakably pure blooded Brakes songs: short, raucous and punchy, but the themes, musical brevity and rhythmic punch are more mature and evolved.
