Animal Collective return with explorations of strange new depths of life affirming weirdness on their new Water Curses EP. Featuring four brand new tracks, Water Curses is the first Animal Collective release since last year's critically-acclaimed tour de force, Strawberry Jam. With a more stripped down feel than the album, Water Curses sees the band further exploring into strange new waters. Opener 'Water Curses' mixes carousel and calypso, throwing unexpected rhythms up, down and sideways to produce the sound of a beaming smile, while 'Street Flash' is nearly seven minutes of spaced out hollers, electronics and lullabies that sounds like it's made of honey. 'Cobwebs' is equally languid. Woven around a defiant vocal mantra and boosters of Gospel organ sounds, it?s like imagining some new kind of space church for Al Green to conduct weddings, until it slowly fades away into a sticky ether. The EP's final track 'Seal Eyeing' takes the celestial feel into even more blissed-out states, ending another exquisite slice of Animal Collective joy and madness.
