The historic, once-in-a-lifetime summit meeting of the legendary 'maestros' of tango, reunited in Buenos Aires by producer-composer Gustavo Santaolalla. Cafe de los Maestros is the most ambitious project ever undertaken involving tango repertoire. For a concert film and this studio recording here in its first international release; OSCAR winning producer/composer Gustavo Santaolalla reunited the outstanding tango musicians of the 1940s and '50s in Buenos Aires. Legendary artists including An bal Arias, Leopoldo Federico, Oscar Ferrari, Carlos Garc a, Juan Carlos Godoy, Jose Libertella, Virginia Luque, Osvaldo Montes, Alberto Podest , L grima R os, and Horacio Salg n present all-new recordings of the greatest songs in tango history. Think of this as the Buena Vista Social Club for tango. A feature film by Miguel Kohan about Caf de los Maestros (filmed at a live event in T atro Colon, Buenos Aires in 2006 and premiered at the Berlin Film Festival 2008) is currently in preparation for a 2008 release. In this state-of-the-art recording Caf de los Maestros displays a wide range of different tango styles: from traditional to milongas and creole waltzes; from purely orchestral numbers to vocal pieces all in the authentic style of the old maestros! An unprecedented homage to tango! At the 2006 Latin GRAMMY award ceremony, the double album (already released in Argentina) received two of the coveted trophies in the categories 'Best Tango Album' and 'Best Packaging/Artwork'.
