Widely regarded as the greatest pianist of the twentieth century, by the time he died in 1989 the charismatic Vladimir Horowitz had been a legend for over six decades, his very name a symbol of pianistic virtuosity and excellence. An American of Ukrainian birth, his playing possessed a unique combination of power, ineffable grace and crystalline delicacy.
