On the back of his disc of arias by Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner and Schubert, we encounter Kaufmann in the most romantic love story of all - Schubert's garland of 20 songs "Die schone Mullerin" (The Fair Maid of the Mill). It's all about a miller who falls in love with a girl, who ultimately gilts him. Heartbroken, he commits suicide by drowning himself.
