Texas singer and songwriter Townes Van Zandt is "one of the greatest country and folk artists of his generation" (All Music) and we are thrilled that the Townes Van Zandt's back catalogue reissues - representing his most important works - are now finally available in Australia through Domino Recordings. A cult legend whose songs are best described as "revelations", the highly influential and revered Van Zandt has written some of country music's biggest selling songs and has been covered by luminaries such as Bob Dylan, Plant & Krauss, Willie Nelson, Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Norah Jones, Cowboy Junkies and Lucinda Williams amongst others. Available once more as a respectfully packaged reissue, this album is the first stage of a release strategy which will see the label and the Townes Van Zandt Estate enhance and improve his musical legacy and awareness. "The best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that." Steve Earle (his latest album, Townes, is a collection of covers of Van Zandt's work). For the Sake of the Song is the first album Townes Van Zandt released in 1968.
