At the very start of writing this album I was asked what was left for me to write about? What did I want to say after 10 years of touring and making albums? I thought hard about this question... this was my answer…
If it was all to end right now, no more concerts, no more albums...I’d want to get every person who has supported me, helped me through the tough times, turned up to shows in the pouring rain, went out and bought my albums, stood by me even when I made mistakes.... and with a cold beer in my hand I’d want to stand in front of them all and say...
"HERES TO THE SINNERS, HERES TO THE SAINTS, HERE’S TO THE PEOPLE I’D LIKE TO THANK, YOU DRINK TO ME, AND I’LL DRINK TO YOU, LETS DRINK TOGETHER, BUT BEFORE WE DO, IF I DIE TONIGHT. THAT WOULD BE ALL RIGHT, YOU WANA KNOW WHY, COZ WE HAD ONE HELL OF A RIDE"
Not a day goes by that I don’t think to myself how lucky I am to do this for a living! The amazing people I’ve met along the way, the experiences, the places.... each album marks a step in my musical and my life journey.... and this album feels like it both closes the chapter of the last 10 years and at the same time opening a brand new one.
Meeting and writing with Travis Meadows has been a turning point in my music, challenging me and pushing me to work harder than I ever have on my songwriting. I’ve never wanted to get into a comfortable space and just cruise with my music and shows... I guess you could say I like to push the boundaries a little!
Working with Richard Landis, I mean this guy produced Tenterfield Saddler for Peter Allen! Working with musicians like Brent Mason and Paul Franklin... these things were stepping out of my comfort zone and seeing what would happen. I’m now sitting here with an album of 12 songs champing at the bit to get out and play them! I feel as excited as I was 10 yearsago when I had my first album in my hand driving around the country handing them to anyone that would listen!
