With the Savages trimmed down to a quartet (keyboard player Bruce Katz departed prior to these sessions), Barrence and company recorded this album with legendary producer Jim Dickinson (Big Star, Replacements, etc.). LET'S LOSE IT is a dry-sounding, scrappy and punchy affair. Seth Pappas' snare drum is sharp, while Dean Cassell's bass slithers around like a suave snake. The songs were written primarily by guitarist Milton Reder, with some surprise covers mixed in (including Leiber and Stoller's "I Smell a Rat" and the Porter and Hayes selection "Under My Nose"). Though Barrence Whitfield & The Savages retained a devoted following in France, its American fan base had not expanded, and the band's touring began to taper off. Whitfield and other members of the ensemble headed off to other projects soon after LET'S LOSE IT was released.
