Notes From San Francisco is the great lost Rory Gallagher album. The studio album was originally recorded in 1978 and this is now being finally released, remixed as Rory would have liked by his nephew Daniel Gallagher, and packaged with the live concert recording from 1979 also in San Francisco. One of the many interesting anecdotes around this album, which puts it nicely into context, is that whilst recording in San Fran, Rory went to see the Sex Pistols at their now-notorious show at The Winterland Ballroom on 14th January, 1978 when they broke up on stage after the first song. The electricity of the show so inspired Rory that he went back to the studio the next day and completely changed his approach to the recording of his album and immediately took a more no-nonsense, high-on-energy, less-produced rock'n'roll approach - something which, when you listen to the studio album now and knowing that, you can definitely get.
