Raven presents two exceptional country rock albums on one CD from renowned American singer / songwriter, the late great HOYT AXTON: Snowblind Friend (1977) and Free Sailin' (1978). Best known as a writer of hits for other artists (Joy to the World, The Pusher, No No Song, Never Been to Spain) Axton was at the top of his game when he signed to MCA Records in 1977. Both albums made the Billboard Country Top 40. Snowblind Friend also yielded the hits You?re the Hangnail in My Life and Little White Moon. His own versions of Never Been to Spain and the haunting anti-drug song Snowblind Friend highlight his song writ-ing craft at its finest. Another standout is his brilliant cover of Tow-nes Van Zandt's Pancho and Lefty. There were fewer original songs on Free Sailin' but it?s a strong album that touches on country anthems (Honky Tonk Music), vintage country (Left My Gal in the Mountains), another of Ax-ton's many drug-related songs (Them Downers) and the joyous and high spirited Free Sailing. With superb quality audio and detailed liner notes this CD is an indispensable addition to his enduring catalogue.
