After establishing himself as a major Nashville songwriter, Willie signed his first serious contract at RCA in 1964. At that time, singers weren't allowed to select arrangements, musicians, studios - any of the key factors in making records the artists had in mind. Willie was constantlyfrustrated by the syrupy strings, vocal group choruses and generally "slick" final product. Fast forward to 2008. Willie and long-time harmonica player Mickey Raphael tracked down the multi-track tapes from these sessions and re-mixed the songs with the original intent in mind. Gone are the strings, the back up singers and most of the production that "ruined" the songs. The CD puts the focus back on Willie's voice and the songs.
