The New Riders were, with the Flying Burrito Bros, the Byrds and Poco, an integral part of the original late 1960s/early 1970s country rock movement. Formed in 1969 by Jerry Garcia, the band was helmed throughout the seven Columbia albums covered in this stellar 24 track collection by John Dawson, who had helped the Grateful Dead turn country on the WORKINGMAN'S DEAD album. Dawson's songs predominate but also included are compositions by Robert Hunter and Bob Dylan. These wasted tasters were heroes of one-toe-over-the-line hippiedom and created a true counter culture hero with PANAMA RED (who'll steal your woman, then he'll rob your head?). Rollicking, jokes 'n' joints country rock, seasoned with R&B and some straight ahead rock 'n' roll. Extensive liner notes and graphic art.
