Dam-Funk is to many a new name from the past year or two, seemingly bursting onto the scene with his 5LP / 2CD masterwork Toeachizown (STH2232LP / STH2232CD), itself a testimony to the golden era of electro-funk. It may be surprising to learn that he has in fact been recording for himself for two decades, honing his craft and developing his work to his own taste. Locked away in makeshift studios filled with vintage synths and drum machines one could only imagine what young Damon was concocting. Well imagine no more! At the request of Stones Throwfounding guru Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam went through many of these recordings, all made on cassette, going back to his teenage years giving the album its title in the process. The result is Dam-Funk's Adolescent Funk, a 14-track album recorded between 1988 and 1992 that gives us all great insight into the formative years of this funk prodigy.
