Returning to SONAR KOLLEKTIV under his SOULPHICTION moniker, MICHEL BAUMAN (of JACKMATE fame and who has released tracks on PERLON, PLAYHOUSE and his own PHIL-POT label) has readied a new album. 'Do You Overstand?' features an impressive range of production styles, not to mention a detailed grasp on arrangements. From the very beginning, Soulphiction effectively melds elements of live and sampled jazz with a housey blueprint. This like many of Baumann's productions for the album goes beyond dancefloor functionality and helps instil a sense that this is a proper long-playing record rather than a collection of 12"s. Fear not though 4/4 hounds, the likes of "Sun Children" and "Dark Berry" pull off club-style beat manoeuvres with no small amount of style.
You Got The Funk, We Got The Funk $11.99 (AUD) | In The Mix: Fliederlieder - Mixed By Tobi Neumann $31.99 (AUD) | $15.99 (AUD) | Fabriclive 56 - Mixed By Derek Carter $27.99 (AUD) Fabric 56 perfectly captures what makes Derrick Carter a truly original house music master. The dynamic chugging beats flow effortlessly throughout the seventeen tracks, many re-edited especially for the project, or reinvented through his multi-deck style and liberal use of acapellas. |
