Haunting instrumental electronic and piano based vignettes, bringing to mind Vangelis, William Basinski, and a whole host of obscure 70s and 80s sci-fi soundtracks. A compelling piece of work.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | so... Cole Porter on 30.10.2011 ... they still make music this good in 2011? a collection of disproportionate samples and loops and lo-fi goodness all thrown into some big mixing pot and then mixed up a bit more. what comes out at the other end makes no sense at all, and that's really the point. OPN seems to deal mainly with - much like his contemporaries (what a hideous word) the Caretaker and Leyland Kirby - the idea of memories and dreams and sleep. so songs are not just coated but completely drowned in fuzz and distortion and bad loops and anything to make them trick you into thinking you're imagining the sounds and not living them. that's my take on it... yes but what do they SOUND like? no idea - picture william basinski throwing 20 or 30 one minute loops together and seeing if any of it sticks - most of it does (Up is horrible and Child Soldier no good at all) and when he gets it right (Andro, Nassau, Remember, Sleep Dealer) he gets it very right. This AND Blanck Mass in the same year. Excellent. |
