A new album from Four Tet (aka organic indie electronica pioneer, Kieran Hebden and the whiz kid behind the albums 'Dialogue', 'Pause', 'Rounds' and 'Everything Ecstatic') is ALWAYS something to be excited about and 'Ringer' is no exception. Four tracks of techno (but not techno), the Ringer mini album is a 32 minute, four-track excursion into the kind of wide-open spaces you might find if you set out to make techno with an afrobeat/krautrock sensibility. Ringer locks together gloriously rich synthesizer arpeggios; 'Wing Body Wing' slips from crisp clusters of disco percussion to Steve Reich polyrhythms; and in between are another two euphoric ripples of sound, 'Ribbons' and 'Swimmer'. These are tracks that make you think of Berlin, Dakar, Detroit - but they could only have been made in London. All four are headphone epics. The techno heartbeat comes from Kieran Hebden's regular DJ residences over the last couple of years but also from his ongoing collaborations with legendary jazz drummer Steve Reid. Whether in the studio or live, Kieran and Steve often click into the kind of deep 4/4 grooves that can depart in any direction with a little adjustment.

One of the original pioneers of dance/rock, are back with their first album in 8 years. Apollo 440's 5th studio album, aptly titled The Future's What It Used To Be. Ladies and gentlemen we are witnessing a transition in the electronic music already seen coming for some time, which is the old skool and new skool shaking hands. Apollo 440 in this album have been able to mix well with the new sounds more vintage sound with power. Insistent breakbeats reign, but also mention that breakbeat of "Motorbootee" pure old skool amplified synth melodies modernized old skool house, as one would expect the rock & roll is present throughout the disc and the end and winks are dnb between melodic atmospheres. A step forward for the band evolving their sound and upgraded to the new times.
