Domino is thrilled to present the seminal retrospective 'Slip In And Out Of The Phenomenon' by Liquid Liquid, featuring the band's entire output plus 10 previously unreleased tracks. Manhattan's Liquid Liquid - Scott Hartley Richard McGuire, Salvatore Principato and Dennis Young - effortlessly melded and shaped its own very groovy inner city sound in the early 80s. Loose but tight, edgy and inviting, the phrase Slip In And Out Of The Phenomenon (the vocal hook from their most infamous track 'Cavern') nails both the sound and the sensation of listening to Liquid Liquid. Over just three EPs, this band rerouted the rhythms of the subway and the steam of the city to some imagined African night-time future. No-one has ever sounded as direct, hotwired and funky. 'Cavern' kicks off with what must be, by now, the world's most famous bassline. And thereby, via 'White Lines' Sugarhill's business practice - the birth of hip-hop and sampling hangs a tale. Now 25 years after the legal meltdowns and bad deals, it's the jaw dropping elasticity and funkiness of Cavern that still shines - one of the most remarkable tracks ever put on record. Today Liquid Liquid's legacy is everywhere: the UK's hippest club, Glasgow's Optimo is named after song 13, while live instruments in 'balearock' italo and electro club means Liquid Liquid's way of doing things has come full circle.
