Akercocke is one of England's rising stars in the extreme metal field, a heavily Satanic black/death metal band whose The Goat Of Mendes release has rightfully garnered quite a bit of critical praise. Combining elements of both black and death metal (maybe one-third black and two-thirds death), their sound is brutal and intensely evil, Martin Bonsoir's subtle yet effective keyboard and electronic bits providing a key role in completing the package. As extreme vocalists go, Jason Mendonca has to rank as one of the more versatile, as he seemless alternates between death growls, vicious black shrieks, and even some haunting clean vocals. The band is also notorious for their image, that being their attire of conventional business suits, a marked contrast to their intense Satanic lyrical stance.
