Joe Henderson was Blue Note's most requested tenor sideman during the '60s. He played on several of the labels landmark albums like Horace Silver's Song for My Father Lee Morgan's The Sidewinder, McCoy Tyner's The Real McCoy. Barcelona was recorded during the late 1970s in a trio setting, challenging Henderson to display impressive saxophone skills.
