Parker's classic quintet in action, the St. Nick's date was privately recorded by tenor saxophonist Don Lanphere. In addition to the original album, 9 extra tracks recorded on the night, are featured here. This is the first time all the St. Nick's material has been compiled on just one edition. As an additional bonus, another rare private recording by Bird is included from 1951 that includes Sarah Vaughan is a guest vocalist on "This is Always".
