Although best known across the globe for his virtuosic classical violin recordings, in November 2005 Nigel entered a studio in New York accompanied by a cast of stellar jazz musicians to lay down his debut release for Blue Note Records. Joined by jazz greats Ron Carter (bass) and Jack DeJohnette (drums); Blue Note regulars Kenny Werner (piano), Joe Lovano (saxophone); up-and-coming musicians Lucky Peterson (Hammond B-3 Organ), Danny Sadownick (Percussion) and JD Allen (tenor saxophone); plus Manhattan-recording artist Raul Midon (guitar/vocals) and produced and mixed by eight time Grammy-winner Jay Newland; this album is the realisation of a lifelong affinity for jazz that has been overshadowed by his multi-million selling classical career. The repertoire of Blue Note Sessions includes 'Blue Note' material originally played by Kenny Burrell, Horace Silver (the all-time classic Song for My Father), Duke Pearson, Jimmy Smith and Stanley Turrentine, as well as original tracks by Nigel Kennedy, Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette.
