Girl Power form the Lone Star State. Texas is a fertile environment for solid blues sounds of all kinds. Equality of the sexes has also come a long way in the musical community. Otherwise it would not be possible to explain why so much female talent has come out of Texas to spread the blues message around the world. Marcia Ball, Angela Strehli and Sarah Brown are three such women. At some point of their (occasionally turbulent) careers, they have all been based in Austin. Austin is proud to call itself "The Live Music Capital Of The World" and its lively club scene makes it an important centre of modern blues music. This environment engenders an atmosphere where open-mindedness can triumph over conservatism and it should therefore not surprise us to find that Ball, Strehli and Brown all have one thing in common: an inquisitive nature that leads them to try out attractive and creative partnerships. In a project like this, the three ladies all have plenty of experience to contribute ... The delicate and charming Marcia Ball is a naturally talented pianist and singer and has received numerous awards. In 2002 she was awarded the coveted W.C. Handy Blues Award for Best Blues Album for "Presumed Innocent". Angela Strehli is "Blonde and Blue" - at least that is according to an album that the bassist, singer and harmonica-player recorded in 1994. In Austin, she was one of the key figures around Clifford Antone who used his club and record label to build up the local blues scene; she now lives in San Francisco. The bassist Sarah Brown has been a fixture of the scene in Austin since 1973
