"The Art Of Drowning" is a landmark album for punk in the late 90's and early years of the new millennium. Having been on the scene since 1991 AFI started to hit their stride and make a massive name for themselves with this album. “The Art Of Drowning” showcased the passion and aggression of previous released but also showed the world how serious AFI were when it came to writing quality music.
From the word “go!” you know that you’re in for a bumpy ride. ‘Pirate-punk’ track “The Lost Souls” gets your heart pumping and feet moving with its epic bass-line and no-holds-barred lyrics. “The Despair Factor” and “Days Of The Phoenix” are fan favourites for a reason; they’re energetic, musically brilliant and give you the urge to mosh in your room. In trademark AFI style songs like “6 to 8”, “Ever and a Day” and “Morningstar” will pull at your heartstring, showing a softer side to the once hardcore-punk outfit.
This album bought melodic punk to the masses, changing the entire game going forward.
