Shane drew inspiration for the title track after reading the book Midnight Express, where a criminal is likened to a 'bad machine' This got Shane thinking. 'Are we made a certain way in the beginning or is it conditioning? Are we controlled by an Almighty engineer? I soon realised there was more substance to the idea than I first thought, so a song was warranted' he understates neatly. Shane would be the first to admit this concept of bad machines does sound a bit grand, at least in theory. However, as he readily confesses, 'I'm not trying to change the world here. It's just a country song. 'A native of Brisbane, Shane Nicholson first gained public attention as the lead-singer/guitarist for the rock band Pretty Violet Stain in the late 1990's. Since then he has released 3 solo albums - It's A Movie, Faith & Science and the ARIA nominated Familiar Ghosts, in 2008. Shane had met Kasey Chambers when she sang some featured backing vocals on the lead single from It's a Movie, and in time the two would marry and go on to record the highly acclaimed, #1 album Rattlin' Bones, winning Best Country Album at the 2008 ARIA Awards, and scoring 5 Golden Guitar Awards in 2009, with the album ultimately achieving platinum plus sales.
