Band of Gypsys is also the band's eponymous live album recorded on two separate nights, 31 December 1969 and 1 January 1970. Hendrix performed with his Army buddy bassist Billy Cox, and Buddy Miles. Released a few months after his New Year's Eve 1970 concert, Band of Gypsys underscored Hendrix's desired return to basics.
