DIVA The term used to describe a woman of outstanding talent in the world of popular music, theatre and opera. The meaning of Diva is closely related to that of "Prima Donna". Almost every vocalist from the 40's and early 50's began singing with the "Big Bands". Peggy Lee worked with Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald with Chick Webb, Jo Stafford with Tommy Dorsey and Doris Day with Les Brown. In many cases the singers became an integral part of the band and provided the link between the bandstand and the dance floor. When the Big Bands started to fade, their vocalists, especially those with the most talent emerged as stars in their own right. This compilation features The Best & The Greatest Divas of all time.
