Cloud 7 marked a departure for Bennett. What he wanted was a smalljazz-inflected group of musicians, a handful of standard songs, and thespace and time to make an album. With Chuck Wayne, the guitaristfrom the original George Shearing group, writing the orchestrations anda group of noted jazz musicians involved, what he got was a genuine"concept album" of pop standards with jazz undertones. The expanded edition of Cloud 7 features the original 10 tracks remastered for superb sound, and the addition of two bonus tracks. The album features original art and liner notes, plus new additional notes by radio's Jonathan Schwartz.
