"Decemberunderground" ushered in a new era in the amazing AFI story. The punk teens from California were now all grown up and their influences and skills had matured. The result; a fascinating and delightful record filled with unlikely gems.
While the album wasn’t initially adored by fans like previous releases, the quality and texture of the songs turned them into some of the all-time favourites in the long-run. “Miss Murder” was the album’s hit single helping it debut in the prized # 1 spot on the Billboard charts. The album takes you on a musical journey. There are upbeat dancey tracks like “Summer Shudder” and “Love Like Winter” that showcase the band’s ability to write a catchy number but there are also the sentimental songs that have won the band legions of fans all over the world. One such song is “Endlessly, She Said which remains an absolute fan favourite to this day. Although “Decemberunderground” was seen as a departure to AFI’s trademark sound is was soon after recognised as a unique and much-loved record in AFI’s catalogue.
