Accompanying the band's classic breakthrough album, East, are 9 songs filmed at the Manly Vale Hotel the week the album was released and they capture the band in fierce, brilliant form. Included is the only know film footage of the band doing their great interpretation of the Bob Dylan classic Knocking On Heaven's Door. In addition, this DVD features Cold Chisel's infamous appearance at the 1980 "Countdown" Music Awards, where they turned their live gem My Turn To Cry into a fiery demolition piece that's been often called "Eat This!"

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Another brick walling job RockPig on 16.09.2011 Pros: Nice double digipak packaging Expanded booklet Improved photo quality Bonus live footage on separate DVD Cons: The sound quality has NOT been improved. The "remastering" is just another fashionable product of the "loudness war". I have an old version of East on CD which sounds better than this version. The Dynamic Range (DR) has been dramatically reduced. For Example on "Choir Girl" the DR has been changed from 12 down to 6. This results in a much flatter and less live sound. So it lacks punch and depth when you turn it up. This treatment is known as “brick-walling” and makes the music sound impressive on weak playback systems like iPods and alike. But in the end the sound fatigues your hearing and is not enjoyable. So as Molly Meldrum would say “do your selves a favour and find an old copy of East on CD, it will be cheaper and sound better”. |
