Yanni was self-taught on the keyboard and possesses a keen sense of melody that conjures the listener's imagination. The contours of a tune often feel inevitable - a sequence of notes climbing upward, for example, will likely conclude with downward movement to the cadence. Yanni often defies such musical physics, his melodies frequently taking unexpected turns before landing into startling harmonies. It has been more than twenty-five years since Yanni made his first recording, but his work from throughout his career remains wonderfully fresh and always appealing.
