Multiple formats, heavily ironic cover versions, unplugged exclusives and absolute shit that didn't even make a generic album. Buyer beware the world of contemporary b-sides and thinly veiled extortion! Clinic's B-sides are joyously addled but have however consistently given a reason to listen beyond the title track, to make their singles worth discovering. An EP mini-album in themselves, their songs cover acid punk to damaged hoedowns and any stops in between.
From the early L.S.D. Roy Orbison nightmare of 'The Majestic' and caustic punk of 'Magic Boots', it was high energy/high imagination time well spent and tradition abused. The eerie disfigured m*a*s*h styled theme of 'Christmas', general hardcore offensiveness in 'Nicht' and severe christian fuzz of 'Dissolution...',were all easily a match for their album counterparts. Even 'The Scythe' and 'The Castle' gave good dancefloor (copyright, June Sarpong),with 'Golden Rectangle' a mellow Patti Labelle afterburn.
Perhaps it's deliberately not working in straight lines. But why wait for an album schedule to make entertaining music? 'Funf' is a collection of B-sides from the first ten years of Clinic.. enjoy.
