This album is back to the basics for The Vines. If you've stuck with The Vines, you will agree this album is better than Melodia and Vision Valley. Still, nowhere near Winning Days, especially Highly Evolved in terms of how good the album is. The only downside to the album, is that the album has more synthesized beat. For example, a 3 minute and 45 second song, the last minute is thrown away with synthesized beats!

The last 2 albums 'Vision Valley' & 'Melodia stripped the Vines sound down considerably to provide a more direct audio assault. This album sees them beef up their sound again to the way it was on 'Highly Evolved' & 'Winning Days'. There's still some short songs kicking around here (that's not a bad thing - some people love a whinge). But they feel much longer because there's more layers to the music on this outing. There's some electronics, spacey reverb and cool percussion sprinkled through out the album which will take listeners of the Vines back catalog by surprise. 'Gimme Love' is in no way a good indicator of how this entire album sounds! Although the production adds new elements to the Vines sound it's not used to hide weak songs. Simply to add to already fantastic songs allowing them to reach their maximum potential.

After waiting 3 years for the next record it's hard to not let expectations rise so I'm going to make my mind up instantly over this record. But the one thing I think a lot of music over the last few years in guitar band terms is that instant wow factor. Everyone says things like 'it's a grower'. To me that just means you get used to it and accept then forget it when the next one comes out. For me as a big Vines fan I think against their back catalogue this for me is hit and miss. It's certainly got better producer, more layer, more thought out but it's lack the melody for me in places and I think they the Vines are gifted when it comes to melody. I was a big fan of the last record, yes simple but sounded like rock anthem after rock anthem. I think the songs STW, Future Primitive, Gimme Love & Candy Flippin' Girl are great. Especially STW. Apart from Gimme Love they spaciness and songs are awesome. But after these there's some I'd happily forget like All That You Do.

A return to form for The Vines in my view, my favourite album to date is Winning Days but this probably gives it a run. Stand out tracks for me were Future Primitive, 'Riverview Avenue' and 'Goodbye'. Amazing melodies, definitely recommend this album.

This album is as exciting and (if not more) explosive than Highly Evolved. The Vines do not disappoint as being Australia's saviours of Rock and Roll. The album is a mixed bag of explosive grunge to melodic rock, with a twist. People do yourselves a favour and hear this masterpiece.
