Superchunk are the band that best defines the fertile Chapel Hill music scene and culture from the 1990's (Archers of Loaf, Polvo, etc). They are considered one of indie rock's definitive bands. Mac and Laura from the band are also founders of the seminal indie label Merge Records, responsible for giving us the amazing Arcade Fire.
