It's hard not to listen to Maniac without having any pre-conceived ideas given the lads two previous bands Something With Numbers and The Matches. Much of the boy's song writing and influences on this album are driven from old school pop sensibilities. An emerging scene out of America, bands such as Girls and The Morning Benders are heavily influenced The Beach Boys west coast American scene of the 70's. With Shawn's hometown being San Francisco you can certainly here some of these references in the vocal delivery and arrangements in Maniac.
