Ariel Ramirez composed the Misa Criolla in 1964 as one of the first masses in the national language of South America. He not only used the language of his continent but also the musical rhythms played by traditional instruments of Argentina and the Andes. It's a Creole mass, as in "native of the place", "Criolla" in Spanish. The creoles are descendants of many different peoples, Europeans, Indians, as well as the new immigrants from where ever they came. A melting pot of many different peoples and ideas. More than 30 years after the first recording, the Misa Criolla is still as popular as it was when first released. Inka Marka has captured the original sentiment of the mass, sticking strictly to the original indigenous rhythms of the piece, and the excellent pronunciation of the language by the Canto Coro Choir is due largely to their strong Chilean origins. Misa Criolla is performed and recorded live at the Collingwood Town Hall under the direction of Peter Mousaferiadis with traditional Andean instrumentation of Inka Marka combined with the beautiful choral voices of the Canto Coro Choir.
