The influence of Iggy & The Stooges on current music has never seemed greater, in fact 'Raw Power'can be seen as the album that spurned the likes of Metallica et al, and of course the latest round of Garage punk bands like The Strokes, Jet, The Hives, The Datsuns all owe something to Iggy, (not forgetting our very own late 70s/early 80s Sydney/Detroit scene of Radio Birdman et al). After releasing the now seminal Elektra albums "The Stooges" and "Funhouse" in 1969 and 1970 respectively Iggy signed to Columbia and recorded the now infamous 'Raw Power' in London in 1972, Columbia holding off release of 'Raw Power' for nearly another year frustrated the highly energised Iggy. Columbia didn't pick up on an option for a 2nd album consequently Iggy was without a record deal but Iggy, James Williiamson and the Asheton Bros found plenty of time to demo new material (of which a considerable amount is included on this compilation, 'Penetration'). Iggy's collaboration with James Williamson continued on "Kill City" first released by Bomp Records in 1977 (vertially at the same time as Iggy's comeback album for RCA "The Idiot"), featured from 'Kill City' are the title track, 'Consolation Prizes','Sell Your Love' and more. This compilation mixes rarities (previously only on Bomp Records and other bootleg-ish releases). Cuts like 'Tight Pants' (an earlier version of Shake Appeal), I'm Sick Of You, Gimme Some Skin, I Got A Right are all classics that sorely missed inclusion on the Columbia issued 'Raw Power'.
