Whilst the north had Alan Freed as its turntable champion, the south was blessed with madcap deejay, Dewey Phillips. Chances are, ole Dewey would have played most of the 75 titles that make up Raunchy Sugar on his Red Hot and Blue show that aired in Memphis in the fifties - a city alive with record labels, shop, hops, musicians and the general chaos that went with the big beat. Outside of the legendary Sun Records, labels like Hi, Cover, Fernwood, Meteor, Vaden Moon and Satellite [later Stax] were prominent. A slew of the top-shelf names appear herepeppered with plenty of killer rare gems.
