Slade Alive! was recorded at the Command Theatre Studio in London, for just £600, and released without overdubs of any sort in March 1972. The seven songs on the album captured Slade s transition from enthusiastic novices with a knack for performing the music of others into a powerful group in their own right and the public loved it. Slade Alive! spent over a year 58 weeks to be exact - on the UK album charts and was a major success across Europe and beyond. As their fans had come to expect, Get Down And Get With It was the showstopper, introduced as ever by Ringmaster Noddy with the now fabled battle cry of: Well, alriiiiiiiiiiight everybody... let your hair down!! The band s version of the Steppenwolf standard Born To Be Wild was further evidence of their showmanship. Alongside the cover versions, In Like A Shot From My Gun , Know Who You Are and the rock n roll pastiche, Keep On Rocking , all ably represented the group s own developing compositional ability.

It's powered throughout by Carlos' instantly recognisable virtuoso lead guitar and the Santana Band's world-class musicianship (only one song features vocals from Santana's lead vocalists Andy Vargas and Tony Lindsay). Carlos dedicated the album to Native American Indians, acknowledging Australia's 2008 apology to the Aborigines, and President Obama's signing of the 2009 Native American Apology Resolution. He says, "I encourage any and all countries (that have not as yet done so) to acknowledge the first people of their land, and make this a collective global effort." Shape Shifter comprises mostly original compositions that Carlos has been stashing away for such an instrumental project-long awaited by fans-and he conceived the album's sequence as thoughtfully as its track selection. Since Santana emerged from the San Francisco Bay Area mus
