"Smoke and Ribbons" is the much anticipated second album from Melbourne band The Small Knives. It sees them take a step forward from the quiet, late night feel of their critically and publicly adored debut album "Rain on Tin", stretching to a more varied, and occasionally upbeat feel, but still retaining the simple and straightforward -- joyful and melancholy pop songs that they're renowned for."Smoke and Ribbons" was recorded by the band off and on over a one year period, and it features appearances from some of Melbourne's finest musicians including Art of Fighting's Marty Brown, Libby Chow from Clare Bowditch's Feeding Set, North Atlantic's Leif Svensson and Gerry Hale from the Innocent Bystanders, Uncle Bill and Paul Kelly. It is the first release on the new, and most excellently named, Plastic Viking Helmet Records. The band recently returned from an overseas tour that culminated in a spot at the prestigious All Tomorrows Parties festival curated by the Dirty Three. The Small Knives will be touring most regions of Australia over the coming months to promote the album."Smoke and Ribbons" is out now through PVH Records distributed by MGM.
