Soundgarden achieve the impossible with this album - it's better than its predecessor Bad Motor Finger. There's a slightly more commercial swing to the songs on this album that make them more accessible but that doesn't mean the music is in anyway compromised - Thayil's guitar wailings are just as deranged, the odd time signatures are still there and Cornell still peels paint off the walls with that voice. A band at the height of their creative powers - get this one - it's a defining point of 90s music
