Internationally acclaimed indie kings bookend an amazing catalogue with this stunning final performance. Recorded live at the Rob Roy, "Threaded into the Night" features 14 songs from all five albums, over 75 glorious minutes.
"I have seen your bloodied pain
You need somewhere to place the blame"
"All we need is just one quiet way to kill ourselves tonight"
To my ears Sandro's "Hate Songs" was one of those perfect albums - a faultless collection of misogyny the likes I have yet to hear bettered. The fact that only 2 songs from that album have made their way onto this live album is it's one big fault - but with 6 releases to choose from for this, their final ever show, it would have been hard to get everything on here.
The uninitiated need only think of every band ever mocked for sounding suicidal: Red House Painters, Will Oldham, etc etc. Strung out vocals over nearly-not-there music moaning about how screwed up women have made their life simply because they can't communicate with them etc etc etc.
The fact that almost no-one bought their albums and even fewer will buy this is through no fault of their own. Cynics would call it the Coldplay generation of contrived misery killing off real emotions for everyone else.
"When you are not here
Then you are no-one to me"
Looking for some solace in the fact that your life isn't as great as it should be (or at least that's what you think after watching Friends...)?
Want to really rub your nose in the scum of life?
"Take some of this and then you will become someone I like to fight with (all the time)
And that's the only way I'll take you - busted up in pieces"
