The Jacksons went from one roaring success to another when they released their magical, self-produced album, Triumph, in 1980. Their second consecutive multi-platinum-seller, Triumph generated massive chart hits "Lovely One," "Can You Feel It," and "This Place Hotel," followed by a wall-to-wall, sold-out national tour. It was the Jacksons' first album to reach the number one slot in the national R&B charts since 1976, and it would become the combo's last longplayer until 1984, by which time the group dynamic had dramatically shifted. With each carefully considered career move, the Jacksons consolidated their national appeal as the first black artists to appeal equally to both black and white teenage audiences, worldwide, and Triumph was the album that eloquently summed up the group's iconic status in the ever-shifting sands of pop music.
