"The Very Strange Year", is Melbourne four-piece Art Of Fighting's debut release. Originally released in November 1998 on Half A Cow Records it has now been re-released in standard digi-pack. A truly stunning independent act reminiscent of all that is good about Touch n' Go Records and Death Cab For Cutie. The debut six-tracker paints a picture of a band who aren't afraid to let the tunes take their time in worming their way into your consciousness. Likened to slo-core acts such as Codeine, Low and Red House Painters, guitarist/singer Ollie Browne also knows how to pen a pop hook to keep one from falling away into dreamland, as can be evidenced in opener Sliding. A certain lyrical darkness borne of self-doubt and depression shadows the release, and the beautiful packaging is just to die for.
