Fantastic Voyage's third set in an ongoing survey of the sounds which shaped country music, concentrates on the golden age of western swing, from the '30's through to the '50's. Western swing brought string-band instrumentation to jazz and blues repertoire and with origins in Texas, its popularity quickly spread throughout the south-western states. This set is divided into three themes, disc 1 covering the hits and evergreens, disc 2 exploring jazz-derived repertoire, and disc 3 doing the same for the blues, a genre which increasingly attracted the western swing bands.
