Sony Music is pleased to announce the release of the original motion picture soundtrack of The Lucky One, a film adapted from the book of that name by the best-selling author Nicholas Sparks, and starring Zac Efron in the lead role.
The original soundtrack perfectly meets this need, and the album features twelve tracks with songs by ten different artists, in addition to an instrumental track by Hilmar. The recording starts off with Jules Larson's lovely vocals on the yearning, but upbeat You Know It's True, followed by Angela Correa with her indie band Correatown performing the poignant All The World (I Tell Myself) with a gentle piano accompaniment. In the same vein Joshua Radin renders the emotional intensity of You Got What I Need with his soft voice and a low-key guitar and keyboard backing.
By no means all the tracks are slow and soulful, however: two numbers by Mayfield, Wasted Generation and When I Feel, are characterised by heavy, clanging basses and angry punk-style vocals. The Southern rock band Ponderosa underline the drama of the movie with slow, emphatic chords in Hold On You, while with Dance Everyday Terrance Simien, who helped rejuvenate the zydeco genre back in the 1980s and is one of the finest vocalists in American roots music, shows along with his band The Zydeco Experience that this album is not entirely about mainstream pop numbers.
To round off the soundtrack there is an atmospheric instrumental number, Over The Bend by Hilmar, where metallic and background sounds come in over orchestral atmosphere to evoke the theme of a soldier's destiny, and finally a song with big international popularity, The Story from the album of the same name, by the folk-rock and country singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile.
