Cassidy was the first MC of significance to be supported by Swizz Beatz's J Records-affiliated Full Surface label. Cassidy is a fresh-faced Philly MC who gained a lot of respect for his freestyling ability He rose to prominence as a battle rapper and started appearing on mix tapes.He first came into national attention after battling the Roc-a-Fella rapper, Freeway. He was also a member of the crew Larceny. Producer Swizz Beatz signed him up to his Full Surface label and featured him on Swizz Beatz 2002 album Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories. Cassidy has also appeared on tracks by Snoop Dogg and Wyclef Jean. His 2004 album Split Personality reached #2 on the Billboard album chart and #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. Cassidy recorded the track and lead single "Hotel" with R. Kelly in Kelly's Chicago studios with a vocal contribution by Kelly - there is also a version featuring vocals by Trina. The song became a hit reaching the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 in February 2004 and the top 5 of the UK charts in May 2004. The song has also reached the Australian top 40 in late May 2004. Cassidy released his sophomore album, I'm a Hustla, on June 28, 2005 on Full Surface. His latest hit, I'm A Hustla, features a sample in the chorus from Jay-Z's Dirt Off Your Shoulder.which was released roughly two weeks after he was charged with a murder that took place in his Philadelphia neighborhood. Cassidy is featured the latest edition of the Ruff Ryders album on the track "Aim 4 the Head" featuring Jin and J-Hood. This CD compiles all of Cassidy's greatest street moments, a must have for any fan of raw lyricism.
