In 2003 the internationally respected Hip Hop Connection Magazine predicted of the Hilltop Hoods “When Australian Hip-Hop breaks out, these chaps will be spearheading the campaign. No silly gimmicks, no wack beats, no nonsense Hip-Hop”.
In 2005 their words ring accurately true.Following the huge success of 2003’s gold certified album ‘The Calling’, which also has the honour of being Australian Hip-Hop’s highest selling release to date, the Hilltop Hoods have emerged as the undisputed leaders of a burgeoning local scene. Not only did the Hoods capture the hearts and ears of the youth of Australia with their classic tunes ‘Dumb Enough’ and ‘The Nosebleed Section’, they have also managed to win the respect of Hip-Hop’s international underground.
Live, the Hoods are untouchable. A rigorous touring schedule since the release of ‘The Calling’ has seen the trio perform over 75 shows including standout spots at the Big Day Out, Falls Festivals, Homebake, Splendour in the Grass, Meredith, Bass in the Dust and support spots for Hip-Hop heavyweights like Public Enemy and Cypress Hill.In an attempt to try and share some of the excitement that has been had on the road and at shows over the past two years, the guys have put together ‘The Calling DVD’ due for release at the end of November. Featuring over 2 hours viewing that includes live footage from over 75 shows, film clips, a sneak peak at some of the fun had backstage, a photo gallery, outtakes, special features including the ‘Testimonial Year‘ video clip with an interactive facility and a special sneak preview of some of the Hoods brand new tracks all in surround sound quality.
