Hip Hop Lives! The landmark album is here, by none other the livinglegends KRS-ONE & Marley Marl.Formerly bitter enemies - both were involved in a long-runningdispute after Marley Marl & MC Shan recorded "The Bridge" in 1985,an ode to Queensbridge. South Bronx MC KRS-One, backed by BoogieDown Prodcutions, took offense to the song, which some say impliesthat hip hop started in Queens. KRS shot back with "South Bronx"claiming the South Bronx as the birthplace of hip hop. Several otherdiss records followed at the height of the battle, including MC Shan's"Kill That Noise" and KRS-One's "The Bridge Is Over". 20 years later,Marley Marl and KRS-One have put aside their differences for thisalbum. Marley Marl explains "My reason for doing this is to show thesekids that [hip hop beefs] are not that serious".The entire album features all new productions from Marley Marl, whohas produced for artists like Biz Markie (Nobody Beats the Biz), Eric B& Rakim (My Melody), LL Cool J (Mama said Knock You Out), Big DaddyKane (Raw) and more. Marley Marl was one of the fi rst beatmakers touse James Brown records for grooves, and learned how to craft hisown drum loops through sampling - moving hip hop away from tinnysoundingdrum machines. He was a founding member of Cold Chillin'Records and the Juice Crew (which included Biz Markie, RoxanneShante, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap & DJ Polo + more). If the end of 2006marked the offi cial declaration that "Hip Hop Is Dead" by Nas, thiscollaboration serves as a landmark release of 2007, to ressurect thetrue hip hop that was declared a lost art form.
