For more than 30 years, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has married the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions with the sounds and sentiments of gospel music. Their wonderful performances, and their aim to break cultural barriers by sharing musical beauty, have earned the group a dedicated world-wide following. Indeed, Paul Simon was inspired to incorporate their traditional sounds into his seminal and genre-creating Graceland album. In addition to their work with Simon, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has recorded with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Julia Fordham, George Clinton, The Corrs and Ben Harper. The album is the first in a trio of releases that looks at the early life of founder and frontman Joseph Shabalala's early life, and is already their most acclaimed record in years.
